The story of shopping for my wedding dress (public post) [Mar. 7th, 2011|07:15 pm]

On Saturday, March 5th, 2011, I found the dress that I will marry Joe in.

My mom and I planned on just looking at dresses- not finding THE dress, but just having some fun, going to try on wedding dresses and get an idea of what we like. We went to Luftenberg's, which is in downtown Fresno, because I specifically wanted to try on the Disney Princess wedding gowns designed by Alfred Angelo. I tried on the Belle dress first, and it was beautiful, but very, very heavy. I couldn't really breathe in it, and I also couldn't move. Which was definitely out, because I want to be able to eat and dance at my wedding. So we decided to try on the Cinderella dress. Which was also beautiful. AND SPARKLY. And a little lighter, but still heavy. But the train on it was absolutely gorgeous.

So we left Luftenberg's and talked seriously about how we'd get the money if I decided to go for the Cinderella dress. Because I loved it, and it was $899.99.

I had set an appointment at David's Bridal, so we went there next. Well, actually, we stopped at Burger King and ate a bit, and then went to David's Bridal. But anyway.
My consultant's name is Crystal, and she is just AMAZING. I told her what I wanted, and she didn't disappoint. We pulled a couple that were totally what I had in mind, and totally not what I had in mind.

I put on a first dress, and I think it was just a bit too much. Then the second dress... I really thought for a few minutes that was going to be it. It was basically EXACTLY what I wanted. Maybe a little MORE, but still. So beautiful. But I wanted to keep trying on dresses.
The third dress I tried on at David's... that was just it for me. I was almost sure I had found it, and she added some accessories (which I won't say here, in case Joe stumbles upon this, because he does not want to know anything about anything regarding my dress or overall look for the big day), and it was more it. Then I had my mom call Debbie (Joe's mom), and my cousin Tamara, and I called my cousin Michelle. Michelle couldn't come, but Tamara and Debbie were on their way! Because I didn't expect to find THE DRESS, so I didn't ask them to come along.
In the mean time, I decided to try on the dress that I thought I wanted. And my mom went to wait outside for Debbie in the meantime. And I started crying when I put on that dress. Because it wasn't THE DRESS... it was definitely the one I had tried on before.

So that was it.
I fell in love with the 5th dress I ever tried on, and thanks to Debbie getting credit approved at David's Bridal, I have ordered it and it will be here in 12 weeks!
I still have to find the under garments, and my shoes (haven't decided for a small heel or flats, but most likely I will go with flats since I will ultimately be more comfortable in them), but I have everything else.

We now have the hall, and the dress.
Everything is slowly starting to fall into place!

SOO exciting! do you think if you had tried on more dresses, you would still have chosen that one? My friend Crystal just went and she said she thought every single one she tried on was the ONE, until she tried on the next one! She said she had to stop trying them on or she would have had to decide between a thousand dresses!

I think yours is so you! I'm glad it was so easy for you!!!!

I really don't. I tried on the dress that I was sure was going to be THE DRESS... and it wasn't. And honestly, it just felt like exactly what I wanted.

I didn't even know about those Disney dresses, I looked them up and some of them are SO pretty! I have a friend who is having little flower girls dressed like the disney princesses (hahah I know!) I think she would be excited to hear about those dresses!

My dress came from David's Bridal too! I think I had found, tried on a few, and purchased mine within a half hour or so. lol. And for shoes, I bought sparkly black Converse. I would say go with something comfortable for the reception, since you'll be on your feet most of the night. lol.
