Wedding update: Photographer booked & Guest List Hell [Jul. 8th, 2011|08:55 pm]
We booked our photographer yesterday!

We're using Albina Campos Photography.

We're not planning on doing our engagement pictures until late November/early December, because we want to do them as close to our 7 year (yep, we'll have been together 7 years this November 30th!) anniversary as possible. So don't be expecting to see those any time soon.

Joe and I are thinking about where we want to do those, as well as where we want to do our actual wedding photos. For engagement, we're either going to do Woodward Park or maybe go up to Shaver for a few hours. It would be SO PRETTY in November/December. For actual wedding pictures, we're still scouting areas, and so is our photographer, but we're considering going to Old Town Clovis, which could make for some very interesting, beautiful pictures.

She wants us to think about what poses and different things we want to do for pictures, and I have NO CLUE what to do. I'm going to really be looking at wedding pictures online, bridal magazines, and asking around for ideas. But I told her I want a lot of organic pictures- I love pictures that aren't too posey. Pretty much our whole wedding party is full of personality, so I want that to shine through.

We also finished the guest list, and it was every bit as hellish as most people have told me. I admit, I went a little crazy (okay, a lot crazy), but we're at 186 now and completely comfortable with the people we are, and aren't, inviting. We unfortunately cannot invite everyone, which sucks but it is what it is.

Now I need to start working on a time line for the day of, find a caterer, get a DJ, and a ton of other things. Thankfully, I still have a little over 10 months, and a lot of help!

Writer's Block: Eeny, meeny, miny, moe [Apr. 25th, 2011|02:25 pm]

If you had to give up swimming, skiing, hiking, or biking for the rest of your life, which would you choose, and why?

But only because I have never done it, so I wouldn't know what I am missing.

Bzzagent: The Domino Project from Seth Godin [Apr. 21st, 2011|05:22 pm]

Some of you may or may not know, but I am a bzzagent. I get sent products to use, review and provide feedback on. One I'm currently really, really excited about is called The Domino Project.

And, right now, you can get the book Do the Work by Steven Pressfield FREE through the Amazon Kindle store through May 25th! I'm just starting, but I'm very excited to start reading through this book.

Here's a description from the book: This book is designed to coach you through a project (a book, a ballet, a new business venture, a philanthropic enterprice) from conception to finished product, seeing it from the point of view of Resistance.

Anyway, it seems really interesting and I'll let you guys know what I think as I read more into it.

Writer's Block: Ticket to ride [Apr. 19th, 2011|10:58 am]

If you could take an all-expense-paid two-week vacation to anywhere in the world with one friend or partner, where would you go and who would you take?

I would take my fiance and I on a trip to Greece. It's somewhere I know we'd both really love to go.

Writer's Block: Born to do it [Apr. 18th, 2011|05:15 pm]

What is your idea of the perfect job? Do you think you'll ever get it?

To me, a perfect job is the type of job you go to, and you enjoy being at, but it's not everything about you. It's where you go to earn your wage and make a living, but not your life.

Writer's Block: Next stop: Hollywood [Apr. 15th, 2011|02:34 pm]

Which book that you've read would make a great movie, and why? Who would you pick to play the main characters?

I've been thinking about this answer since I saw it on The Writer's Block, and here's what I've come up with.

I just want Hollywood to make a movie out of a book, and stay true to it. So many books that I've loved have been excellent movies, until the end was changed.

Like... Fried Green Tomatoes. The endings the same, but the subtleties are not there, at all.
My Sister's Keeper was an amazing book with a tragic ending... that Hollywood changed. Still love the movie, and I love the book, but I have to keep them seperate.

That's my plea. Just stop changing things. Usually books are loved for a reason.

The story of shopping for my wedding dress (public post) [Mar. 7th, 2011|07:15 pm]

On Saturday, March 5th, 2011, I found the dress that I will marry Joe in.

My mom and I planned on just looking at dresses- not finding THE dress, but just having some fun, going to try on wedding dresses and get an idea of what we like. We went to Luftenberg's, which is in downtown Fresno, because I specifically wanted to try on the Disney Princess wedding gowns designed by Alfred Angelo. I tried on the Belle dress first, and it was beautiful, but very, very heavy. I couldn't really breathe in it, and I also couldn't move. Which was definitely out, because I want to be able to eat and dance at my wedding. So we decided to try on the Cinderella dress. Which was also beautiful. AND SPARKLY. And a little lighter, but still heavy. But the train on it was absolutely gorgeous.

So we left Luftenberg's and talked seriously about how we'd get the money if I decided to go for the Cinderella dress. Because I loved it, and it was $899.99.

I had set an appointment at David's Bridal, so we went there next. Well, actually, we stopped at Burger King and ate a bit, and then went to David's Bridal. But anyway.
My consultant's name is Crystal, and she is just AMAZING. I told her what I wanted, and she didn't disappoint. We pulled a couple that were totally what I had in mind, and totally not what I had in mind.

I put on a first dress, and I think it was just a bit too much. Then the second dress... I really thought for a few minutes that was going to be it. It was basically EXACTLY what I wanted. Maybe a little MORE, but still. So beautiful. But I wanted to keep trying on dresses.
The third dress I tried on at David's... that was just it for me. I was almost sure I had found it, and she added some accessories (which I won't say here, in case Joe stumbles upon this, because he does not want to know anything about anything regarding my dress or overall look for the big day), and it was more it. Then I had my mom call Debbie (Joe's mom), and my cousin Tamara, and I called my cousin Michelle. Michelle couldn't come, but Tamara and Debbie were on their way! Because I didn't expect to find THE DRESS, so I didn't ask them to come along.
In the mean time, I decided to try on the dress that I thought I wanted. And my mom went to wait outside for Debbie in the meantime. And I started crying when I put on that dress. Because it wasn't THE DRESS... it was definitely the one I had tried on before.

So that was it.
I fell in love with the 5th dress I ever tried on, and thanks to Debbie getting credit approved at David's Bridal, I have ordered it and it will be here in 12 weeks!
I still have to find the under garments, and my shoes (haven't decided for a small heel or flats, but most likely I will go with flats since I will ultimately be more comfortable in them), but I have everything else.

We now have the hall, and the dress.
Everything is slowly starting to fall into place!

Dear LJ [Mar. 4th, 2011|10:46 am]
I don't want to play any games on here. So when I tell your annoying pop-up asking me if I want to go away, I expect it to stay away.

No love from me,

Writer's Block: Love is a battlefield [Feb. 24th, 2011|03:28 pm]

Which five songs would you absolutely play at your friend's wedding reception, and why?

OOH THIS IS A GOOD ONE! I'm definitely keeping it public.

It would honestly depend on which friend, but most of my girlfriends I know Baby Got Back would be one of them. And maybe Yeah by Usher. Other than that, it would just depend on the friend.

And now I ask you- what songs would you like to play at Joe's and my reception?

WE'RE ENGAGED- pictures and story. [Feb. 12th, 2011|05:02 pm]

A little over 6 years after Joe and I first started dating, we are ENGAGED! He proposed on my birthday (February 9th). He sent roses to my work in the morning, which was very sweet and threw me off, because I figured that's what I would be getting for my birthday. After work, we went to dinner at Chili's, then we went to our hotel, The Comfort Suites in Old Town Clovis, to room 112. He put on "Ready For Love" by Bad Company (lately, it has been "our song"), and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of COURSE I said yes. I actually said yes twice, because I was crying and I wasn't sure if he heard me the first time!

We enjoyed the evening just the two of us, and then went around telling family the next day. I had a birthday party last night where I finally was able to tell most of my friends in person, and then I released it to Facebook and Twitter, and here on LiveJournal to a select few close friends.

We are so excited! Of course, I am already getting ideas of locations, photographers, caterer's, dresses, etc. I would ideally like to have most things planned and out of the way as soon as we can, so we can just spend the rest of the time saving money and enjoying the process. We're looking to set the date on May 19, 2012, but of course that mostly depends on the right venue.

I will be making public posts about the process every once in awhile, and linking them on Twitter & Facebook for all to enjoy.

NOW WHAT YOU ALL WANT TO SEE--- ring pictures!
some are large, so put behind a cut!Collapse )
